Virginia Tech Softball Dominates NC State in Series Sweep

Instructions

The Virginia Tech Hokies softball team delivered an impressive performance over the weekend, securing two decisive victories against the NC State Wolfpack at home. On Friday, the Hokies started strong with a dominant 10-0 run-rule victory, propelling their season record to 26-4 and 2-2 in ACC play. The team's offensive charge began early with Addison Foster and Zoe Yaeger contributing doubles, setting the stage for Jordan Lynch's bases-loaded double in the second inning, which brought in three runs and widened the lead to 4-0. The third inning saw an additional five runs, pushing the score to 9-0. Kylie Aldridge later sealed the 10-0 victory with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Lynch was a standout, driving in five runs, while Aldridge added three RBIs. Emma Mazzarone delivered an exceptional pitching performance, maintaining a shutout for five innings, allowing only two hits and one walk, and striking out eight batters to earn her seventh win of the season.

Building on their Friday success, the Hokies once again triumphed over the Wolfpack on Sunday with an 11-3 run-rule victory, advancing their record to 27-4. Despite an early challenge from NC State, who scored three runs in the first inning, Virginia Tech quickly turned the tide. Bree Carrico came in as a reliever to brilliantly defuse a bases-loaded situation, striking out two and forcing a groundout. The Hokies' offense responded immediately in the bottom of the first; Foster doubled, followed by two walks, and Nora Abromavage hit a two-run double, narrowing the deficit to 3-2. Aldridge then scored on a wild pitch, tying the game. Rachel Castine further propelled the team with a solo home run in the second inning and a bases-loaded walk in the third, giving the Hokies a 5-3 lead. The fourth inning saw the Hokies extend their lead significantly with four more runs, making it 9-3, with Chatfield contributing the final run. Carrico, who pitched six masterful innings, allowed only one hit, two walks, and no runs while striking out six, secured her seventh win, tying Mazzarone for the team lead. This weekend's victories also marked a significant milestone for Head Coach Pete D'Amour, who achieved his 300th win at Virginia Tech in less than eight seasons.

The Virginia Tech softball team's impressive display of skill, teamwork, and strategic play serves as a powerful reminder that dedication and perseverance lead to remarkable achievements. Their ability to overcome early challenges and maintain dominance throughout the series exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and relentless pursuit of excellence. This success not only highlights the team's current strength but also inspires continued growth and future triumphs, reflecting the positive impact of strong leadership and collective effort.
